Is the current financial crisis good for the speculators?

Perhaps, bad for the investors - but good for the short/midterm speculators.

Thanks...Is the current financial crisis good for the speculators? It sort of depends on your methods and process.

If in a bull market, most things are likely to go up, so it is hard not to feel like a successful genius.

In a bear market, most things are likely to go down, so the trick is to spot something on the up-tick that you can short. Otherwise, short of using options (pun intended) you are pretty well sitting on the sidelines.

In a wildly volatile market (I think this qualifies), only day traders are really seeing much successful action. Note, though, some of the big days when the market tanks so royally, it often does in the last hour. I suspect it is day traders dumping stuff. If that is true then you got to get in early, which might mean crimping potential profits, in order to beat the rush, where you may be left holding the bag if you aren't early in the flood of sell orders.

Then too, spotting those contrary and exception stocks can be lucrative--if you figure out which ones the savvy crowd will favor today (and probably dump tomorrow or next week).

I was amused a while back when I started getting an email from Forbes, offering me news on their "stock of the week". Just for grins, I opened a practice portfolio on a business news site and tracked their touted stocks to see what happened. Perhaps I just found the flukes to their system, but if I had known what their stock of this week was, but last week, then I might have done okay. Otherwise the exercise was an abysmal failure. (Still, someone had to buy those shares that rose the week before and got dumped the week of the announcement). Similar results happened to Zacks' 'freebies' their daily four for the four common types of investing. Maybe if you paid for some good service that spotted such featured stocks before they gave them out to the freeloading public (which means you either have to have some cash or in the case of Zacks open an account and let him trade a big bundle for you), then maybe you get to turn it around, bid it up this week, and next week dump it on the cheapskate public. Yep, there's a speculating strategy for you.Is the current financial crisis good for the speculators?no, vis-versa - bad for short/midterm speculators. Good for long term investors. Stocks that have been 'hammered', are good long term buys. Is the current financial crisis good for the speculators?Everyone that participates in the market is a speculator. Is the current financial crisis good for the speculators?
yes, it is at the moment as the market is very volatile in a confined range.
