The government in 1999 decided that using income and credit history to determine who could qualify for a loan was racist. Banks had to make sub-prime loans or be subject to judicial review. Since they had to make the loans anyway, the banks, driven by greed, found ways to justify the buying and selling of crappy loans. There were well run banks that chose to minimize their risk. There were well run auto companies that should be reaping the market share benefit of their competitors going under. Then the largest banks and manufacturers would also be the best run ones making American companies that much more competitive in the global market.If we had a president whose solution to the financial crisis was the same thing that caused it, would you call?
