Bush tried to put stricter controls on Fannie and Freddie, but the dems in congress wouldn't agree. They gave huge amounts of campaign money mostly to Dodd and Obama.Fannie and Freddie caused the financial Crisis?
They backed bad loans made to people who shouldn't have gotten mortgages, by unscrupulous mortgage companies who exploited loopholes in regulations and bankrupted early, leaving F %26amp; F holding the bag. It's been coming for awhile, Republicans tried to address it several years ago and this Congress let it happen in the manner and timing it did.

Are you serious? In 1999, the Republicans voted for the deregulation and the Democrats voted no.
It wasn't just Fannie and Freddie, it was all the subprime giants, like Ameriquest, Countrywide, etc. Ameriquest's owner made large donations to the Bush administration. When Ameriquest got hit with predatory lending lawsuit back in 2005, why didn't the administration look into other lending practices. It was practiced with many lenders. Honestly, I think they looked the other way.
Republican deregulation which John McCain supported caused the financial crisis. Now McCain claims to be against what he supported for 26 years.
