If the govt did absolutely nothing about the financial crisis, what would happen?

Everyone voice your opinion. If the govt did absolutely nothing about the financial crisis, what would happen?Calvin Coolidge did nothing when the stock market crashed. No direct relief. He did nothing and hoped for the best...

In 1929. Wonder what the 30s were like in financial terms? If the govt did absolutely nothing about the financial crisis, what would happen?
According to the Congressional Budget Office Report from 7 Jan 2009 the recession will start to correct itself by the third quarter of this year and then improve. It will be longest recession since WW2, slightly longer then the late 1970 and early 1980 ones but not as severe as them or with the high unemployment rate. Not a lot worse then the 1990 one but longer and slightly higher unemployment. Not my opinion the CBO was provided to Congress and the President and President Elect on 7 Jan so all knew about it before the current Poklulus Bill was written and the scare talk of not passing it started. Thought this election was a change with honesty, transparency and an end to dishonesty and fear tactics. Just more of the same just worse. The link takes you to CBO Projections then clip the line about forecast and see for yourself. If the govt did absolutely nothing about the financial crisis, what would happen?Depends where we are in the natural cycle.

I think we're probably still contracting. When we hit a production amount equivalent to the amount purchased, we'll be in the trough (supply=demand). As long as economic activity is sustained at that level, the only place to go is up (expansion).

We should require that mortgages be reassessed and make every effort to reduce the monthly payments -- the banks would probably agree with this outcome b/c they're not in the real estate business. I can imagine they don't want anymore houses on their books.

We need to also loosen up credit card limits -- and reduce rates in a temporary fashion.

We need to expand the unemployment benefits -- size and length to accommodate increased unemployment.

I'm always for people keeping more of their money so we'd couple it with tried and successful tax-cuts.

We should offer incentives for businesses to hire employees.

Then hold on.

I'm tired of this big government ideology -- FDR thought he could pull it off and failed...too many people fighting for power as it requires a selfless governing body, of which we are far from - pelosi, frank, dodd, raines, geitner, reich, obama...some repubs too.

Technicalities aside, if the founders were alive today they'd be loading their muskets.
Things would eventually heal themselves on their own.

How is millions of dollars towards global warming, Planned Parenthood and the National Endowment for the Arts going to heal this economy? It's not! The socialists in power want to own the people. If that package is passed it will be the biggest mistake this country has ever made. Consider this: Call or email your senators today and tell them to VOTE NO!!!If the govt did absolutely nothing about the financial crisis, what would happen? We would hurt for awhile, but as in years past have righted ourselves. Government involvement is the biggest source of our problems. By allowing them to run our nation we're going to continue spiraling downward and become a communist country eventually. The more our government gets it's foot in the door, the less freedom we have.If the govt did absolutely nothing about the financial crisis, what would happen?
Big corporations will fail. Unemployment will soar. Consumer spending will decrease sharply. We will be in a deep deep depression.

The end: all debts are cleared, future corporations learn their lessons.
Things would be fine, that is how capitalism works. You can't just keep going up, and when you go down just ride it out.If the govt did absolutely nothing about the financial crisis, what would happen?
It would get really bad for a long time and then fix itself. Then the democrats would find a social group they wanted some votes from and put thier hands back into the economy and screw it up
the people that run failing business will fail as needed, to keep spending money on irresponsibility is just like giving a criminal a jail key
things would continue as is for about a year. after which time, you would see a natural recovery.
we would probably go into a depression but the economy would eventually right itself and we would be 1 trillion dollars less in debt.
Economic cycles like this typically right theselves in about 18 months.
It would recover nicely by Q2 2010.
About the same thing if they do some thing.
Things would get better. Freedom rocks.
The very same thing at a lower cost.
Tens of millions of Americans would suffer. Either we fight this Bush Depression with a huge stimulus package or we let it destroy our nation.
